Accredited Registers quarterly update
The Accredited Registers programme continued to build momentum ahead of the revised Standards coming into effect, with targeted oversight, sector engagement and new resources supporting public protection.
Between 1 April and 22 June 2026, we continued to work with the Accredited Registers preparing to introduce the PSA’s revised Standards, which came into effect from 1 July 2026. Activity during this period focused on engagement, targeted oversight and supporting continuous improvement across the programme, including one Standard One report (assessing whether there is a clear public interest in a register being considered for PSA accreditation), three targeted reviews and further conditions issued following review activity.
UK Government minister backs Accredited Registers and its public protection role
The UK’s Minister of State for Health, Karin Smyth (in May 2026) issued a statement of support for the Accredited Registers programme, reinforcing its vital role in protecting patients and the public.
In her statement, the Minister called on employers and commissioners to make use of the assurance provided by Accredited Registers and encourages the public to look for the PSA’s Quality Mark when choosing health and care services. The Minister also emphasised the programme’s growing importance as health and care continues to evolve, noting that Accredited Registers can support safe workforce expansion by providing assurance for existing and new roles. This can help ease pressure and increase choice across the health and care system, and support changes to NHS delivery.

On 9 June we announced that the DVACT-PAI’s register of expert domestic abuse risk assessors had passed its initial assessment for the Accredited Registers programme, paving the way for a full application.
This first stage, known as Standard One, assesses whether there is a clear public interest in a register being considered for PSA accreditation. DVACT-PAI holds the UK’s only register of expert domestic abuse risk assessors and is the first register of its kind to complete this initial assessment. We are continuing to work with DVACT-PAI as it prepares its application for full accreditation.

Accredited Registers Seminar
The Accredited Registers Seminar 2026 brought together 20 of the 28 Accredited Registers to discuss implementation of the revised Standards, promotion of the programme and improvements to complaints handling. The programme continues to play an important role in strengthening public protection by supporting safe practice, proportionate oversight and public confidence in health and care roles not regulated by law.

Accreditation assessments and decisions
Every register undergoes a full assessment at its initial accreditation and then once every three years. We undertake annual monitoring between full assessments to check for any significant changes. We also make decisions outside the regular assessment cycle, including applications from new organisations, preliminary outcomes for applicants, appeals, and changes to Accredited Registers' status such as suspensions or withdrawals.
