Healthcare scientists support the assessment and diagnosis of illness in patients, either in a laboratory or hospital setting. They process samples, take readings, and help to identify issues. They are not subject to statutory regulation, but can choose to join a register that is accredited by the PSA.
The Academy for Healthcare Science is the overarching body for the whole of the Healthcare Science Profession, working to ensure that Healthcare Science is recognised and respected as one of the key clinical professions in the health and care system.
The Register of Clinical Technologists (the RCT) is a register for healthcare scientists concerned with the practical application of physics, engineering and technology to clinical practice.
