Special reviews (UK and International) 

We are sometimes asked to carry out special reviews or investigations of the regulators in the UK and in other countries, providing advice when it is needed.  

The Secretary of State for Health can ask us to carry out an investigation. We can decide to use these powers ourselves when we think it is necessary. Others may also commission us to do this work for a fee.

Independent lessons learned review

The Professional Standards Authority has been asked to carry out a review of the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s handling of the Morecambe Bay midwife cases by the Department of Health on behalf of the Secretary of State. We have now agreed the terms of reference for the review and the review is now underway. Find out more.
