Our Standards

Our Standards encourage good practice. We develop standards for regulators and accredited registers to meet. We use them when we review the performance of regulators and accredit registers.

We also have a role in promoting good regulation and good governance and have produced guidance for Boards and those making appointments.

We also publish good practice guidance for professionals and others.

  • Standards of Good Regulation - we use these in our performance reviews of regulators
  • Standards for Accredited Registers - we use these when deciding whether to accredit
  • Standards for members of NHS Boards and Clinical Commissioning Groups
  • Good practice in making Council appointments
  • Sexual boundaries guidance for professionals and public

Reviewing our Standards of Good Regulation

We use these Standards as part of our performance review process of the regulators. We want to make sure that they are properly focusing on risks and regulatory outcomes so we are in the process of reviewing them. We held a first consultation last year to get feedback on what approach we should take. We have now launched a second consultation on the details of these proposals. The deadline for responding is 10 September 2018 and you can find more details here
