Good practice in making council appointments

In this guide, we outline the four principles which regulators need to demonstrate to meet the standard required when making appointments to their councils. We also provide good practice guidance on how regulators can adhere to those principles, as well as detailing the scrutiny process, we use to advise the Privy Council.

The power to make appointments to the councils of eight of the regulators we oversee rests with the Privy Council. The Privy Council doesn't choose the recommended candidates; that's the regulator's decision. We check that each regulator runs a fair selection process to find suitable candidates to appoint.
