We were commissioned by the Secretary of State for Health in July 2011 to develop Standards for members of NHS boards and CCG governing bodies in England, covering personal behaviour, technical competence and business practices.
Background
We were commissioned by the Secretary of State for Health in July 2011 to develop Standards for members of NHS boards and CCG governing bodies in England, covering personal behaviour, technical competence and business practices.
All members of NHS boards and CCG governing bodies should understand and be committed to the practice of good governance and to the legal and regulatory frameworks in which they operate. As individuals they must understand both the extent and limitations of their personal responsibilities.
Following extensive consultation with patients and the public, NHS board members, and other key stakeholders such as NHS Employers, the Institute of Healthcare Management, and the King’s Fund, we developed Standards that put care and compassion at the heart of leadership in the NHS in England.
