Institute of Trichologists
The Institute of Trichologists (IOT) holds a register of trichologists who diagnose and treat hair and scalp conditions. Registrants work primarily in private practice, helping clients with conditions such as hair loss and scalp disorders, and refer to other healthcare professionals when prescribed treatments are needed.

IOT Accreditation status
IOT Condition Status
As part of our accreditation of the IoT, we issued it with eight Conditions. Our report on how the IOT addressed the Conditions can be downloaded here:
IOT Targeted Review Status
Following our most recent annual check we initiated a Targeted Review relating to 5 minimum requirements across Standards 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7. Following our review we issued five new Conditions:
- The IOT must publish clear processes for all routes to registration.
- The IOT must record and publish processes for recognising external regulatory decisions. These must be set out in registration policies and reflected in application materials, requiring applicants and registrants to declare relevant information.
- The IOT must develop appropriate protocols for managing safeguarding concerns it is notified of or becomes aware of to ensure consistent and appropriate action is taken.
- The IOT must develop and implement documented business continuity arrangements covering all critical regulatory functions. The IOT must have at least a provisional business continuity plan in place, alongside a plan for finalisation through appropriate governance processes.
- The IOT must develop and implement a documented organisational risk management framework, including an organisational risk register that is regularly reviewed by the Board. The IOT must have at least a provisional organisational risk register in place, alongside a plan for finalisation through appropriate governance processes.
IOT Notification of Change status
The IOT has not told us about any changes that might affect its accreditation.
