PSA response to the Leng Review

We welcome the report of the independent review into the physician associate and anaesthesia associate professions (the Leng review) and the collaborative, evidence-based approach taken by Professor Gillian Leng and team.

It is clear that there is much learning for sector leaders on how to develop existing roles and introduce new roles, while keeping people safe and maintaining professional and public confidence. This work will be valuable in the planning and implementation of the new 10 Year Health Plan for England. It will also be important that there is a cohesive system-wide response to the recommendations within the Leng Review, that takes account of UK-wide regulatory system. The PSA is keen to contribute to these discussions, drawing on our expertise as the UK-wide oversight body for the regulators of professions.  

We are reviewing the full report in detail to consider the potential implications for the General Medical Council and the other regulators we oversee.
