PSA publishes reports following consultation on its Standards for regulators and Accredited Registers
09 Oct 2025
The PSA has today published two reports, following a public consultation earlier this year inviting views on whether the Standards it uses to protect the public are fit for the future. At the same time, the PSA also carried out a review of published evidence, which included submissions to an external call for evidence, on ways professional regulation and registration could improve, to help shape the PSA’s thinking about the future of public protection and the revised Standards.
The consultation outcome report summarises the responses to the consultation, as well as observations on learnings from the evidence, and sets out what will happen next. This will include further targeted engagement on a new set of Standards during the coming weeks.
Osama Ammar, Head of Accreditation, and Akua Dwomoh-Bonsu, Head of Performance Review, said, "We're so pleased with the response to the consultation and all the insight that we were able to generate from the contributions. Our proposals for change received support, and we were able to consider deeply the reasons why people agreed or disagreed. In most cases we are proceeding with our proposals for change, but in ways that we think are sensitive to the feedback that we received. This next stage of detailed engagement is just as important now that we have draft revised Standards to test with our stakeholders and I encourage everyone to let us know what they think."
The evidence review report collates the evidence we received and explains the approach we took to evaluating it.
Dinah Godfree, Head of Policy, said, “We wanted to make the most of the large body of research that is out there, to guide the changes to our Standards. When we combined these findings with what we were hearing back through the consultation, we were pleased to see that they pointed to clear ways forward for our Standards. Thank you to all who responded to our call for evidence.”
