General Medical Council

Marx medical manslaughter review invites written evidence

The GMC has invited submissions to its working group into gross negligence manslaughter and culpable homicide. The review is led by Dame Clare Marx, Chair of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management. Submissions can be sent via an online questionnaire and the deadline is 27 July 2018.

General Optical Council

Consultation on new standards for optical businesses

The consultation seeks views from patients, optometrists and dispensing opticians, employers and other stakeholders on a new set of standards to replace the GOC’s Code of Conduct for Businesses from April 2019. Consensual Panel Disposal Policy

The GOC has now published its policy on Consensual Panel Disposal. The policy will be used to identify and progress fitness to practise cases that may be suitable for concluding without a contested hearing if the registrant has admitted the allegation in full. For consensual panel disposal cases, the GOC will seek to agree an appropriate level of sanction with the registrant and make a sanction recommendation to the Fitness to Practise Committee. General Pharmaceutical Council

Online pharmacies

The GPhC is seeking views on its proposals that online pharmacies will have to put in place new safeguards to protect people who want to obtain medicines online, including opiates, antibiotics, asthma inhalers and Botox. It says it is concerned that it can sometimes be too easy to obtain certain medicines on the internet. The GPhC has set out its plan about how to strengthen its guidance in a discussion paper. The guidance is aimed at owners of online pharmacies based in Great Britain. The GPhC wants to hear from patients and the public and organisations that represent them, healthcare professionals, owners of primary care services and others with an interest in online pharmacies to respond to the questions set out in the discussion paper by 21 August 2018. Publication and disclosure policy

The GPhC is seeking views on its new publication and disclosure policy which sets out its approach to publishing and disclosing information about individuals who are subject to fitness to practise procedures. Health and Care Professions Council

The HCPC is consulting on proposed changes to its Indicative Sanctions Policy. The Policy sets out what principles Practice Committee Panels should consider when deciding what, if any, sanction should be applied to fitness to practise cases. It aims to ensure that decisions are fair, consistent and transparent. The deadline for responses is 31 August 2018. Find out more from the HCPC's website.

Department for Health and Social Care

The DHSC has launched two UK wide consultations on behalf of the four UK health departments.

The consultations relate to the following draft Orders:

  • The Pharmacy (Preparation and Dispensing Errors – Hospitals and Other Pharmacy Services) Order 2018
  • The Pharmacy (Responsible Pharmacists, Superintendent Pharmacists etc) Order 2018
