About Accredited Registers

NHS Scotland 2018 celebrates its 70th birthday

Held in its customary home of Glasgow’s Scottish Exhibition Centre, the annual NHS Scotland conference was themed around the NHS at 70. We enjoyed taking our place among the many exhibitors there to talk about our role in healthcare.

As always, it was great to meet those working on the front-line in Scotland, as well as health and social care leaders and other key decision-makers. We received a great deal of interest in our work on statutory regulation and the Accredited Registers. On the latter topic, we shared one of our recent reports – Untapped Resources: Accredited Registers in the Wider Workforce – which looks at how the wider workforce can be used to address public health challenges.

These conferences are always the perfect opportunity for us to meet with colleagues in Scotland from a wide range of organisations. This year, we were very pleased to chat to Scotland’s Chief Nursing Officer, Fiona McQueen, who complimented us on our delicious fruit bowl. Thanks, Fiona!

2018 Accredited Registers annual conference

2018 conference tweetsTaking its inspiration from our Untapped Resources report, this year’s conference on Friday, 29 June welcomed many delegates from our registers. It featured a mix of presentations and breakout sessions looking at a range of themes.

Our morning sessions focused on the report and current public health challenges with a panel discussion. On the panel were Jim McManus, Director of Public Health at Hertfordshire County Council, Dr Pauline Craig, Head of Population Health at NHS Health Scotland and Margaret Coats, CEO at the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council.

In the afternoon, we took a broader look at areas of UK regulation. Steven Pruner from NHS England talked about personal health budgets while Shane Carmichael from the General Medical Council explained their approach to predictive (or upstream) regulation.
