Healthcare regulation explained
The viewpoint has been supplanted. We are now publishing regular blogs. Our first two blogs look at explaining healthcare regulation in the UK. Not a simple subject, which is why we needed two blogs to attempt it.
When we attend conferences and events, talking with both professionals and the public, it has become clear that many people do not understand healthcare regulation in the UK. So we have sought to answer some of the frequently asked questions about it, including:
- What it is?
- Who is regulated?
- Who decides who is regulated?
- Who regulates/registers them?
- What is the role of the Professional Standards Authority in regulation?
Our first blog answers these questions and then, in part 2, we look at the challenges facing professional healthcare regulation, how the regulators are meeting these challenges, and the alternatives to statutory regulation.
