We set standards for regulators and accredited registers. We sometimes develop standards or guidance for people working in health and care too. You will find them here.

Standards of Good Regulation

These are the current Standards of Good Regulation which we use to assess regulators' performance. These Standards started to be used from January 2020 and replaced the previous Standards.

Clear sexual boundaries

Guidance for patients, health professionals, education and training providers and fitness to practise panels published in 2008 and 2009.

Standards for members of NHS boards and Clinical Commissioning Group governing bodies in England

We were commissioned by the Secretary of State for Health in July 2011 to develop Standards for members of NHS boards and CCG governing bodies in England, covering personal behaviour, technical competence and business practices.

A stronger focus on equality diversity and inclusion in our Standards

During 2023, we have strengthened our approach to equality, diversity and inclusion for healthcare regulators and Accredited Registers. As part of our strategic focus on EDI, we have changed the way we assess the performance of the organisations we oversee. This includes the 10 statutory regulators and the Accredited Registers.
