The regulators we oversee ‘register’ health and care professionals working in occupations that Parliament has said must be regulated. For example, doctor, nurse, pharmacist and paramedic.
Regulators investigate complaints about health and care professionals. Serious cases are referred to hearings by fitness to practise committees. We review their decisions and can appeal them.
See information about each of the nine regulators we oversee including the results of our performance reviews, and outcomes of recent cases. You can also search for practitioners on their registers.
We assess the performance of the regulators against our Standards of Good Regulation. We also invite people to share their experiences of the regulators with us and we take that information into account.
We advise the Privy Council about the quality of the processes eight of the regulators use to recommend candidates for appointment and re-appointment as chairs and members of their councils.
About appointments to Councils
We may carry out special reviews or investigations of the regulators we oversee when required. We also conduct special reviews of regulators in other countries and provide advice on request.
