We are pleased to announce the appointment of Nick Simkins to the Authority’s Board.
Nick has had a career as a chartered accountant, specialising in working with not-for profit and public sector organisations, including experience of delivering and advising on governance and risk management. He has also been a Non-Executive Director and an Audit and Risk Committee chair in the further education sector.
Nick has been appointed by the Privy Council for a four-year term and will join the Authority’s Audit and Risk Committee.
The Authority’s Board sets our strategic direction, approves our strategic and business plans, approves our budget and monitors our performance.
The Authority’s Chair, Caroline Corby said:
‘I am pleased to welcome Nick to the Authority’s Board. He has a wealth of experience, especially on finance, governance and risk management and this will complement the mix of skills and experience of our existing Board members.’
Alan Clamp, the Authority’s Chief Executive, added:
‘I am really pleased that Nick has joined our Board. His knowledge, skills and expertise will prove invaluable to the Authority in what promises to be a very busy and interesting period.’

- The Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care oversees 10 statutory bodies that regulate health and social care professionals in the UK.
- We assess their performance and report to Parliament. We also conduct audits and investigations and can appeal fitness to practise cases to the courts if we consider that sanctions are insufficient to protect the public and it is in the public interest.
- We also set standards for organisations holding voluntary registers for health and social care occupations and accredit those that meet them.
- We share good practice and knowledge, conduct research and introduce new ideas to our sector. We monitor policy developments in the UK and internationally and provide advice on issues relating to professional standards in health and social care.
