Refining our regulator reviews: follow-up consultation

We carry out annual performance reviews of the 10 statutory healthcare regulators to check how well they are performing against our Standards of Good Regulation.

Our current process was introduced in 2016 and we want to make sure it’s still fit for purpose. This is our second consultation on this work. In this consultation, we are seeking feedback on three key areas:

  • Moving from an annual process to one where we look in detail periodically, with ongoing monitoring in between to maintain our oversight
  • Our proposals for setting this period as a three-year cycle
  • The factors we will consider when determining whether we need to look in more depth at a regulator’s performance.

We expect that these proposals will enable us to more effectively focus our resources on areas where we identify risks to public protection.

How to respond

We are seeking views on our proposals. We would welcome your response to the consultation by 21 December 2021. You can find out more about the consultation, including all the relevant documents from our dedicated webpage. Please submit your response to PRconsultation@professionalstandards.org.uk.
