The Professional Standards Authority responds to the GMC announcement  that its Chair, Dame Clare Marx, is stepping down due to ill health:

At the Professional Standards Authority we have worked closely with Dame Clare Marx and her colleagues at the GMC to support patient safety through the regulation of doctors in the UK.

Commenting on the news, Chief Executive Alan Clamp said:

‘We express our deepest regret upon hearing this sad news. I would like to thank Dame Clare on behalf of the Authority for her commitment to safe patient care throughout her post. Notably, her work to support doctors, patients and the public during the pandemic has been a clear demonstration of compassionate leadership.’

Dame Carrie MacEwen will assume the role of Acting Chair while a new permanent Chair is recruited.
