The Authority will consider the recent report on racism in the UK.
However, we should stress that we consider that there are many areas where Black and Minority Ethnic registrants face significant challenges. In many professions they remain under-represented at senior levels and over-represented in Fitness to Practise processes.
The Covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated significant inequalities where both patients and doctors and nurses from BAME communities have suffered significantly poorer outcomes compared with their white colleagues. The reasons for this are complex and need to be properly understood and the Authority is committed to understanding the reasons for the disparity and using its influence to address them.
