Authority supports regulators' joint statement recognising the challenging circumstances caused by Coronavirus

We oversee the regulators who hold the registers of health and social care professionals in the UK. We welcome and support their recent joint statement recognising the highly challenging circumstances in which health and care professionals are working to provide care for their patients and people using their services. It remains essential that health and care professionals continue to provide competent care for their patients and that the regulators maintain their statutory duties in this area. However, we too recognise the challenges this pandemic poses and we will be working with the regulators on how best to navigate them.

Alan Clamp, Chief Executive of the Authority said:

‘We are all extremely grateful to all health and care professionals who are working so diligently during this pandemic. We welcome and support the recent joint statement by the regulators to their registrants reassuring them that they will take proper account of the highly challenging circumstances under which they are working. We would like to reassure health and care professionals that we will be working with the regulators we oversee to ensure that the context in which health and care professionals are working is taken fairly into account’.
