About Accredited Registers

Registers renewing accreditation

We are pleased to announce that the Federation of Holistic Therapy and the Academy for Healthcare Science have recently successfully renewed accreditation. We ask all registers to renew annually – this means we can ensure that they continue to meet the Standards

Board approves principles

The Accredited Registers programme has now been in operation for seven years, so we recently reviewed the principles that underpin the approach we take. In January our Board reconfirmed these principles, which are:

  • The Authority should ensure that any restrictions developed through the creation of the accreditation standards, or the operation of the programme, would reflect the potential risks of harm to the public.
  • The Authority should not unfairly or unnecessarily restrict the market by creating monopolies and would be open to any eligible register, including those relating to the same occupation.
  • Accreditation should be affordable and not price small registers out of the market, making it open to registers clustering under umbrella organisations.
  • The Authority should not set the education and training requirements for entry onto a register; it was our view that individual professions are the experts on what education and training is required for competent practice.

Events

We recently attended the parliamentary launch of the Children’s Mental Health beyond the Green Paper report, by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on a Fit and Healthy Childhood. The event and report were sponsored by one of our Accredited Registers, Play Therapy UK, and sets out recommendations for the Government and Local Authorities to improve services for children. The report can be read here.

GP consulting with her patientWe will be attending the Family Doctor Association’s event on GP Hot Topics later this month, where we will have a stand. We look forward to discussing the programme and its benefits with attendees.

Lastly, we are currently planning a seminar in April with our Accredited Registers and we will be discussing various topics with risk as the central theme.
