About Accredited Registers

Accredited Registers and Covid-19

Covid-19 has put immense pressure on the professional healthcare regulators and Accredited Registers alike. To ensure ongoing protection of the public, they have had to quickly respond to challenges around emergency registration, continuing adherence to standards and how to support registrants (including those newly-qualified) working in such unusual circumstances.

Communication with registrants and the public is paramount. We’ve been working with the Accredited Registers to help them navigate the challenges they are facing. Many have issued guidance on how to continue with clinical practice online when face-to-face contact is not safe.

Some registrants work in NHS settings and are continuing to do so, under close supervision and guidance from their register.

We are pleased to report that where possible, registers are providing practical tools to help registrants, for example, telehealth software for virtual consultations.

Strategic review of the programme

On 8 June, we announced our forthcoming Strategic Review of the Accredited Registers programme. You can read the Terms of Reference of the review here. We will be seeking views from a wide range of stakeholders over the next few months, so if you would like to find out more or contribute your views please get in touch by emailing accreditationteam@professionalstandards.org.uk.

Congratulations to the International Federation of Aromatherapists

The International Federation of Aromatherapists (IFA) recently applied to us for accreditation of their register and we’re pleased to announce that they were successful.

The IFA awards qualifications as an awarding body and is also a professional body for aromatherapists worldwide, established in 1985. Its register of aromatherapy professionals working in the UK has been accredited by the Authority. To check if a practitioner is registered with the IFA, visit www.checkapractitioner.com

Registers renewing their accreditation

We are pleased to announce that the Academy for Healthcare Science, the British Acupuncture Council, the Federation of Holistic Therapists, the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists and the UK Public Health Register have recently successfully renewed their accreditation. This means they are continuing to meet our standards

All registers are asked to renew annually and we publish our decisions here.
