Welcome to the spring edition of ‘The Standard’
A ‘worthy guardian’
The year got off to a positive start when Ben Gummer MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department of Health described us as a ‘worthy guardian’ of professional regulation and we heard that our paper on Rethinking regulation is set to be the basis of a consultation on regulatory reform.
Lord Hunt, Opposition Health Spokesperson in the House of Lords also said ‘The PSA has a crucial role and I think it does a great job’.
We welcomed George Jenkins OBE as our new Chair. He follows in the footsteps of Baroness Jill Pitkeathley who stepped down after eight years.
We launched our revised performance review with the Health and Care Professions Council and General Osteopathic Council volunteering to help us pilot the process. We are now in the early stage of reviewing the General Pharmaceutical Council and the General Chiropractic Council. We will have more to say about this later in the year.
Accredited Registers are establishing themselves as part of the future of assurance of health and care occupations and we have agreed to carry out a joint project with the Royal Society of Public Health, examining how Accredited Registers can help to support public health.
