Royal Society of Public Health pilot with Accredited Registers

We started a pilot project in February with the Royal Society of Public Health  to assess whether  the wider workforce covered by the Accredited Registers programme could be used to monitor and improve the public’s health. A group of Accredited Registers practitioners will volunteer to be trained by the Society to deliver NHS health checks and their delivery will be piloted for three months. We will then jointly report our findings and publish them in the autumn.

Our response to National Institute for Health and Care Excellence consultation

We responded to NICE’s announcement about their consultation on an update to clinical guidelines on ‘Improving supportive and palliative care for adults with cancer’.

Meeting with Royal College of General Practitioners new Vice Chair

We recently met Professor Kamila Hawthorne and congratulated her on her appointment. We discussed opportunities for cascading information to GPs about the Accredited Registers programme and will be following up on Professor Hawthorne’s recommendations very soon.

Hong Kong announces accredited registers scheme

The Hong Kong Government has announced its intention to launch an accredited registers scheme for ‘supplementary healthcare professions’ this year. In 2014, we were commissioned by the Food and Health Bureau to work with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, to explore the viability of a similar scheme. We have offered our expertise to the Hong Kong Government in setting up its scheme and wish them every success.

Accredited Registers annual seminar hailed a success

Our annual seminar for Accredited Registers took place on 6 April. The seminar is a key diary date for the Registers and provides an opportunity to network, share good practice and learning across occupations. This year we focused on finding the Right-touch to complaints handling, and patient, service user and public engagement. Feedback from delegates was very positive and we will be following up on actions agreed on the day.

Coming up: webinar for registers preparing to apply for accreditation

One of four webinars held throughout the year, our next is on 20 July. This workshop is hosted by the Accreditation team for organisations holding registers that are planning to apply for accreditation. It will outline the application process and give delegates the chance to ask the team any questions. If you would like to attend this free webinar, please contact accreditationteam@professionalstandards.org.uk.
