The year got off to a positive start when Ben Gummer MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department of Health described us as a ‘worthy guardian’ of professional regulation and we heard that our paper on Rethinking regulation is set to be the basis of a consultation on regulatory reform.

We have launched our revised process for reviewing the performance of the regulators. See two important changes to our powers and read a summary of the report of our investigation of the General Dental Council.
It has been a busy start to the year for the Accredited Registers programme including meeting with the new Vice Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners and holding our annual seminar.
Based on our paper Rethinking regulation, the Government has announced plans to consult on reforms to professional regulation.
We have just launched our new-look website. This new design should make it easier to navigate. Features which are more prominent now include ‘find a register’ and ‘share your experience’. This means members of the public can search through regulators’ registers and/or find an accredited register in a couple of quick clicks.
At our annual symposium earlier this year, we considered regulation’s role in supporting innovation. Stephen Dorrell, former Chair of the Health Committee and former health Minister, exhorted us all to be 'divinely discontented'.
