Hypnotherapy, alongside other complementary therapies, is becoming ever more popular. If you are considering having hypnotherapy, are you sure you've done your homework with regards to the practitioner who is treating you?
Did you know that hypnotherapists are not regulated by law in the UK? Unlike doctors, nurses, dentists and many other healthcare practitioners, they are not overseen by a professional body unless they choose to register with one. So, what does this mean for you? In simple terms, it means that it's up to you to check who is treating you because there are no guarantees that someone else is doing it for you.
Is your hypnotherapist trained appropriately? Do they have insurance which covers you in case of an accident? What happens if you want to make a complaint?
How do you find the answers to these (and other questions)? Well, that’s where the Accredited Registers programme can help you out. Find or Check a Practitioner >
Accredited Registers exists to help you choose from a list of practitioners who have been thoroughly vetted. You can also be assured that everyone on one of the registers must:
- Sign up to a code of ethics/conduct
- Be insured to practise
- Have appropriate training and qualifications for the treatments they offer
- Demonstrate that they are continually learning and updating their skills and knowledge (also known as CPD)
